ATEX and Hazardous Area Handling

Where powders, solvents or gases create an explosive atmosphere, standard handling equipment is not just non-compliant, it is an ignition source. ATEX and hazardous area handling equipment is built and certified for zoned areas under directive 2014/34/EU, with non-sparking materials, rated electrics and controlled earthing in place of the components that make ordinary machines dangerous there. Machinery Masters lists certified handling equipment from verified sellers, including new Volkmann ATEX powder transfer pumps, an ATEX platform lift and an ATEX drum elevator. You contact the seller directly to confirm the equipment marking against your zone, and can apply for financing on qualifying listings.

ATEX and Hazardous Area Handling Product Types

Equipment here does the same jobs as its standard counterparts, lifting and transferring loads, but every component is specified for the zone it runs in.

ATEX powder transfer pumps

Vacuum conveying pumps, such as the Volkmann units listed new, that move combustible powders through sealed pipework without dust clouds or ignition sources, the standard method for charging vessels in dust-zoned plants.

ATEX platform lifts

Lift tables and platform lifts with rated electrics and non-sparking construction, raising loads to working height inside zoned production areas.

ATEX drum elevators and lifts

Machines that raise and position 205-litre drums for decanting in solvent stores and zoned plant rooms, where a standard drum lift cannot legally operate.

Certified bin and container handling

Tippers, hoists and trolleys built to ATEX specification for moving containers of flammable or combustible materials through zoned areas.

Why Choose Machinery Masters

Verified Sellers Only

Every seller is verified before a single listing goes live. Machinery Masters also reviews listings for accuracy, so buyers can commit to high value machinery with confidence.

Global Reach

Listings come from sellers across Europe, North America, and beyond. That reach widens the options past any regional dealer network, and it is often the only way to find discontinued models in good condition.

Flexible Financing Options

Qualifying listings carry financing through partner providers. Terms are shown directly on eligible product pages, spreading the cost instead of draining working capital in one hit.

Direct Seller Contact

No broker sits between the buyer and the seller. Ask about service history, arrange inspections, and negotiate directly with the person who actually knows the machine.

Applications and Uses

Zoned areas exist wherever dusts or vapours can reach ignitable concentrations, and each needs equipment matched to its classification.

Powder handling plants

Transfer pumps and certified hoists move combustible powders such as resins, pigments and organic dusts between intake, vessels and packing in zone 21 and 22 areas.

Solvent stores and dispensing rooms

ATEX drum elevators and lifts handle solvent drums for decanting where vapours create zone 1 or 2 atmospheres.

Chemical and coatings manufacturing

Certified platform lifts and container handling keep materials moving through zoned production areas without introducing ignition sources.

Recycling and biomass sites

Dust-rated handling equipment serves plants where combustible dust accumulates around shredding, drying and storage.

Benefits from Machinery Masters

Certified equipment is a narrow market, and the marketplace surfaces what exists across sellers.

01

A scarce class gathered in one place

ATEX-rated handling equipment appears rarely on the open market. Collecting it under one category means a zoned-plant buyer sees every certified machine currently for sale, new and used.

02

Certification details before you call

Listings identify the equipment and its ATEX rating where stated, so you can check category and zone compatibility against your site's classification before contacting the seller.

03

Sellers who can evidence the rating

Direct contact lets you request the declaration of conformity, equipment marking and documentation that a certified purchase requires before any money moves.

Frequently Asked Questions About ATEX and Hazardous Area Handling

Your site's DSEAR assessment assigns each area a zone: 0, 1 or 2 for gases and vapours, 20, 21 or 22 for dusts. Equipment carries a category marking under directive 2014/34/EU, such as II 2G or II 3D, that states which zones it may run in. Match the marking to the zone, and ask your DSEAR assessor to confirm before purchase.

Used certified equipment is legitimate provided the certification travels with it. Ask for the declaration of conformity, confirm the marking plate is present and legible, and check that no modification has been made to electrics, motors or seals since manufacture, as uncertified changes void the rating. Missing paperwork should be reflected heavily in the price.

A G marking covers gas and vapour atmospheres, a D marking covers combustible dusts, and the protection methods differ: dust equipment controls surface temperature and ingress, gas equipment controls sparks and internal explosion paths. Equipment rated for one is not automatically safe in the other. Check your DSEAR assessment for which atmosphere, or both, applies at the installation point.

Open tipping of combustible powder creates exactly the dust cloud a zone 21 classification warns about, and each tip is a fresh ignition risk. A sealed vacuum transfer pump moves the powder through pipework with no airborne cloud and controlled earthing throughout. If operators currently tip sacks into open vessels in a zoned area, review that process first.

The machine is one part of a compliant installation. Earthing and bonding across the transfer path, rated electrical supplies, and documented maintenance by competent staff all follow from DSEAR and the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Ask the seller for the original manual and installation requirements, and involve your electrical contractor before the machine arrives on site.
